Drive (Beta)
Drive is file storage in Sayo Academy. It has two spaces:
- My Drive — your private files; only you can access them
- School Drive — files shared with teachers and admins in your school
Everyone signed in can use My Drive. School Drive is for school teachers and admins. If you open School Drive without that access, Sayo sends you to My Drive.
Drive is separate from Materials (lessons for students) and the Assignments library. For that difference, see My Materials Overview.
Where to Find It
- Click Drive in the sidebar (it may show a Beta label)
- Teachers and admins can switch between My Drive and School Drive on the page
- Students use My Drive

Folders and Uploads
In either drive you can:
- Click New folder to create a folder, then Create
- Click Upload (or drag files onto the page) to add files
- Open a folder by clicking it, or use the breadcrumb to move up
- On a file or folder, use actions such as Rename, Move to…, and Delete
A storage meter shows how much space you have used.
Documents, Spreadsheets, and Presentations
Drive includes built-in editors for native files:
| Create | What you get |
|---|
| New document | A text document |
| New spreadsheet | A spreadsheet |
| New presentation | A slide deck |
Open a native file to edit it in Drive. Changes autosave (you will see Saving… / Saved). Use Download when you want a file on your computer.
Presentations and PowerPoint
Create a blank deck with New presentation. Upload a .pptx file to edit it in Drive; use Download to export a presentation as .pptx.
Spreadsheet limits
Charts, pivot tables, and macros are not supported and will not be saved.
Open in Sayo Chat
Native documents, spreadsheets, and presentations open in Drive’s own editors.
For some uploaded files (for example PDFs or images), the file menu can include Open in Sayo Chat so you can work with that file in chat.
You can also use Drive from inside chat — see the next section.
Drive in Sayo Chat (Beta)
- Open Chat (Sayo Chat) from the sidebar
- Open the Tools menu under the chat box
- Turn on Drive
A side panel lets you browse and manage My Drive (folders, upload, rename, delete) while you chat.
When Sayo plans to create folders or files in Drive, you get a Drive plan. Review it, then choose:
- Approve — create the empty folders and files in the plan
- Deny — create nothing
After files exist, asking Sayo to fill documents, spreadsheets, or presentations can use credits.
For other chat tools (documents, slides, apps), see Tools in Sayo Chat.
Tips
- Keep student-facing lessons in Materials and graded work in Assignments; use Drive for everyday files and drafts.
- Prefer My Drive for private drafts; use School Drive when colleagues need the same files.
- If an upload fails because the drive is full, free space or ask a school admin.
