What is the AI Marker?
The AI Marker is a powerful tool designed to help teachers grade student assignments quickly and consistently. Whether you need to grade a single essay or a whole class of assignments, the AI Marker can read student work, compare it against your specific marking scheme (rubric), and suggest a grade with detailed feedback!
Two Ways to Grade: Individual vs. Batch
You can choose how you want to grade based on your needs. Use the tabs at the top of the AI Marker to switch between:
- Individual Grading: Best when you want to focus on grading one student's work at a time. You can see the document side-by-side with the AI's feedback.
- Batch Grading: Best when you have multiple assignments to grade at once. You select all the files, and the AI will process them in the background while you do other things!
Step 1: Uploading Your Files
Whether you're grading one file or a batch, you need to provide the AI with the right materials.
1. Student Work
This is the completed assignment you want to grade. You can upload it as a PDF, Image (like PNG or JPEG), or a Word Document (DOCX).
💡 Tip: If you have one giant PDF with all your students' work combined, use the Split PDF button at the top to easily separate it into individual files for each student!
2. Marking Scheme (Optional but Recommended)
A marking scheme or "rubric" tells the AI exactly how you want the work graded. Upload a document that explains your grading criteria. If you skip this, the AI will use a general grading approach.
3. Original Question (Optional)
Uploading the original instructions or prompt helps the AI understand what the student was supposed to do. This makes the feedback much more accurate!
Step 2: Customizing Your Grading
Before you hit the grade button, you can adjust a few settings:
- Max Points: Want the assignment to be out of 100? Or maybe just 10? Set the maximum possible score here.
- Custom Instructions: You can type specific instructions for the AI. For example, you can write: "Be strict on spelling, but generous on creativity" or "Make the feedback sound encouraging and friendly for a 5th grader."
Step 3: Reviewing the AI's Feedback
Once the AI finishes grading, it will present a suggested score and detailed feedback.
⚠️ Important: The AI is an assistant, not the final judge! You should always review the feedback to make sure it's accurate and fair.
Editing the Feedback
If you want to change something the AI wrote, you have a few options:
- Edit Manually: You can type directly into the feedback box to change words, scores, or add your own personal notes.
- Edit with AI: Click the little sparkle icon (✨). You can tell the AI how to fix its own work! For example, type "Make this sound friendlier" or "Explain the grammar mistake in more detail" and the AI will rewrite it for you.
Step 4: Saving and Exporting
Once you're happy with the grading:
- Download: You can download the graded feedback as a nice, clean PDF to send back to the student.
- Copy: Copy the text to paste it into an email or your school's learning system.
✅ Save Your Session: If you need to take a break, click "Save Session" at the top. You can easily load it back up from the "History" menu later!
